Wedding Festival at St James

During Open Doors Heritage Week, St James' and Emmanuel hosted a Wedding Festival to celebrate St James' 775th anniversary.

Headteacher Matt Whitehead and Festival organiser Diana Leitch 'tie the knot'.Wednesday 7th September saw the visit of Didsbury C of E school for a special assembly. Children, parents and many local dignitaries enjoyed a ‘Celebration of Marriage’ as part of the Wedding Festival.

Two special musical events were put on in Wedding Festival week, one at St James' and the other at Emmanuel.  On Thursday 8th September two former pupils of Didsbury C of E Primary School and Trinity High School, Tim Good and Peter Gunstone, who went on to be Organ Scholars and study music, performed at St James'.

On Saturday 10th September the first Coffee Concert of the new season saw the very gifted Chinese cellist, Li Lu, and her Australian pianist, Matthew Kam, entertain everyone who attended. Li  also talked about getting from Athens to Edinburgh in 35 days using her wits and playing the cello!

Both events were free with retiring collections at the end.

The festival was a tremendous success, bringing back fond memories for some and highlighting the remarkable history of St James for others.
