Work on St James is underway
At the end of January, work started on renewing and improving facilities. See regular updates on SJE news.
St James’ church was 775 years old in 2011! That means that St James’ church is five times older than Big Ben and sixty times older than the Trafford Centre. In 1236 Henry III was on the throne and the Mongol horde conquered Bulgaria.
But St James’ is not just an architectural and cultural museum; it’s the home of a vibrant and growing Christian community, today. Improvements include:
• A new drinks kitchenette
• Two new toilets, one with facilities for the disabled
• A dedicated baby change area
• A new crèche area
• Disabled access to the north tower door
• A reed bed filtration system to handle foul waste
• Renewed external lighting and churchyard paths
The estimated cost is £177,000 and in 2011 the St James 775 fund was launched. People have been remarkably generous, but as of 19 February the fund still needs £20,000.
If you wish to donate to the fund, please email the parish office for further details or call the office on 0161 446 4150.
